Hydrophboc nano-coatings also allows protection of heritage buildings by preventing moisture from seeping into the concrete which causes decay. The nano-coating would block out external moisture as it fills up the pores within the concrete material. This function eliminates the possibility of decay and vulnerability to acid rain damage. This application can significantly help in conservation of buildings.

 

However, implications of using the nano-coatings would be the possible environmental impacts. As the nano-coating do wear off over time, when it wears off it seeps into the ground and possibly come into contact with our water supply. This presents an adverse threat to water safety as these nano-particles cannot be filtered out by conventional filtration methods. Direct ingestion of nano-particles can have detrimental effects on human health as the scope of damage depends on the types of reaction the nano-particles have with our body cells. Hence, environmental and social issues arises with the use of such technology and this forces us to re-evaluate this practicability of such options
